• Japan Parties With Wii Party

  Nintendo seems to have another hit in the line of titles that includes Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Wii Party, released to Japan on the 8th, topped the charts in its first week with 235,000 units, according to sales tracking firm Media Create.

   

  Wii Party had some tough competition. Sony released White Knight Chronicles 2, heavily promoting the game's inclusion of the original as a freebie. This debuted at 176,000 units.

   

  Other newcomers this week include the delayed Harvest Moon Twin Villages, and Crackdown 2, known in Japan as Riot Act 2.

   

  Here's the full top 10, covering July 5 through July 11. Total life to date sales are in parentheses.

   

  1. Wii Party (Nintendo, Wii): 235,000

  2. White Knight Chronicles 2 (SCEJ, PS3): 176,000

  3. Inazuma Eleven 3 (Level-5, DS): 98,000 (603,000)

  4. Harvest Moon Twin Villages (MMV, DS): 64,000

  5. Taiko Drum Master DS Dororon! (Namco Bandai, DS): 31,000 (100,000)

  6. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo, Wii): 26,000 (675,000)

  7. Crackdown 2 (Microsoft, X360): 15,000

  8. Friend Collection (Nintendo, DS): 13,000 (3,318,000)

  9. Winning Eleven 2010 Aoki Samurai no Chousen (Konami, PS3): 12,000 (173,000)

  10. Winning Eleven 2010 Aoki Samurai no Chousen (Konami, PSP): 12,000 (113,000)

   

  Although they topped the charts, Wii Party and White Knight Chronicles 2 failed to meet the sales highs of their predecessors. Mario Party 8, for instance, sold 265,000 units in its first week. The original White Knight sold 207,000 units.

   

  In the case of Wii Party, it's possible that the game will see a Nintendo-like sales curve, so we'll need to watch how sales proceed from here on out.

   

  Wii Party's release gave Wii a slight boost. While the system was already tops amongst consoles last week, this week it managed to top even the mighty PSP.
