Good news if you didn't like the four years we had to wait between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. According to a Nikkei report, Capcom is aiming to speed up development of major titles like Resident Evil. By tapping external development studios, the company hopes to cut development time for major games from four years to two or three years.
The reason Capcom is aiming to cut down development time is because it wants to have more major releases each year in an effort to combat falling sales and earnings. Currently, according to Nikkei, Capcom releases a couple of major titles each year. It hopes to increase this output to three or four titles.
As for the external development talent, the company plans on focusing on North American and European studios. We can see this in practice already with one of Capcom's big upcoming releases, Dead Rising 2.
